We are delighted to announce the appointment of Alyssa Ziman, M.D., as Medical Director of the Clinical Laboratories for Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, beginning September 1, 2018. Dr. Ziman has been the Chief of the Division of Transfusion Medicine since 2010; in this role, she has worked collaboratively with clinical colleagues throughout the medical enterprise to improve transfusion practices and as a leader in the UC-wide blood utilization project. Dr. Ziman has also been instrumental in expanding donor operations on campus with the Ackerman Donor Center and throughout the greater Los Angeles area, implementing a new IT system in transfusion medicine and spearheading educational endeavors in the clinical pathology residency program. Dr. Ziman will be continuing in her role as Chief of Transfusion Medicine in addition to her new responsibilities. Dr. Ziman will be succeeding Dr. Linda Baum, who has recently been appointed as an Associate Dean in the School of Medicine; in Dr. Baum’s seven years as Medical Director, she has been involved in many new initiatives, including the opening of the Emergency Dept. satellite lab, the expansion and reorganization of point-of-care testing, the initiation of the Code Blue Lab Response process, the initiation of Clinical Exome testing, and she has been a valued consultant to the Medical Staff for all laboratory issues. In her new role as Medical Director, Dr. Ziman will focus on continuing and improving our tradition of outstanding patient care in the clinical labs, while optimizing laboratory test utilization.
