In its longstanding, customer-oriented commitment, LASCOD has now won another challenge by patenting an innovative surface treatment of surgical steel, giving rise to a new, highly functional smooth handle. This new handle facilitates the rapid removal of any organic or inorganic residues while ensuring excellent grip and control, as well as absolute hygiene.

In a report that the WHO forwarded to various Health Ministries at the end of the nineteen-eighties, an alarming fact emerged: more than 50% of cross-contaminations occurred in dental studios. The most recent estimates published in 2008 declared that there are approximately 140 million people suffering from the hepatitis C virus (HCV), equal to 2.2% of the world population with a considerable variability in geographical distribution. It is most widespread in Asian countries, Sub-Saharan Africa and the Eastern Mediterranean countries. This fact did not go unnoticed by LASCOD and the research and development centre immediately began to search for the causes, availing of numerous studies conducted worldwide.

New Packaging

The kit consists of 10 surgical forceps for tooth extraction that can be personalised to meet the dentist’s operating requirements.

There was the unanimous belief that the transmission of viruses and pathologies from one patient to another was mainly the fault of the instruments, or the operators in case of minor injuries. Even though the sterilisation and sanitisation procedures were carried out with great care, something was preventing the total safety and hygiene of the instruments. It was for the express purpose of facilitating the basic sanitisation steps of the instruments, first and foremost the cleaning, that in 1994 LASCOD patented a new and extremely functional, smooth handle. This innovative handle is obtained by means of advanced technical solutions that offer excellent, unequalled grip and control. A new industrially-produced technique has also been introduced (chonometric insertion) for coupling the drill bits.

HANDLE-TIP CHONOMETRIC INSERTION

Besides making the junction site impenetrable, this solution also eliminates the need to add other materials, chemical adhesives (1) or welding (2), which are responsible for triggering and facilitating oxidation and corrosion. University studies have indicated these areas as the most hazardous because of their ability to trap organic material even after thorough cleansing.

EASY TO CLEAN / NO KNURLING

The total absence of any knurled surfaces prevents having to use brushes or abrasive metal scourers that could damage the instrument and facilitate the onset of corrosion. Manual and ultrasonic cleaning is also very effective, as it facilitates the last rinse and subsequent drying step. The latter is of paramount importance in order to avoid compromising the correct and indispensable exposure of the instruments to the sterilising agent.

SECURE GRIP. SENSITIVITY

The grip of the instrument improves control and operating sensitivity, resulting in less hand fatigue. The handles come in variable diameters, 6 mm (full) and 8 -10 mm (hollow).

RESISTANCE TO CORROSION. LONG LIFE

The Zeffiro instruments are manufactured after selecting and testing the best formulations of surgical steel (in compliance with the UNI EN ISO 7153-1 standard, “Surgical instruments - Metallic materials - Stainless steel”) available on the European and world markets in order to ensure maximum resistance to corrosion over time and high quality standards, thus making them suitable for every type of sanitisation and sterilisation technique.
